Called But Confused? Trusting God in Your Business Journey

Called But Confused? Trusting God in Your Business Journey

Jul 26, 2025

Have you ever felt that holy tug on your heart — a calling to create, speak, build, or lead — and then immediately been met with a wave of uncertainty?

You're not alone.

Many women feel called by God to start a blog, a business, a ministry, or a platform that shares a message.

And yet, just as many feel stuck at the starting line with questions like:

  • Is this really from God?
  • What if I'm wrong?
  • What if I fail… in His name?

If you've ever whispered, "God, I feel called… but I'm confused," — this post is for you.

Let's talk about the tension of calling and confusion, and how to trust God in the middle of it.

You're Not Crazy — You're Being Called

Sometimes the first step in our business journey doesn't look like a business plan.

It looks like a quiet whisper. A conversation that won't leave your heart. A nudge to share your story. A fire to create something that serves others — and glorifies God.

That's the start of calling.

However, calling rarely comes with clarity on day one. In fact, Scripture is full of people who were deeply called and deeply confused:

  • Moses argued with God about his voice.
  • Esther questioned whether her moment was "for such a time."
  • Mary responded to a divine calling with, "How can this be?"

Confusion doesn't mean you're disqualified. It just means you're human. And it means you need God — which is precisely where He wants to meet you.

Why Calling Often Feels Confusing

Let's be honest: most of us were taught how to work hard, but not how to discern well.

We were taught business strategy, not spiritual sensitivity and now, as Christian women trying to build something meaningful, we're learning to walk a new way.

Here's why the journey often feels confusing:

  • You care deeply about honouring God (which makes every decision feel weighty).
  • The online world is loud, full of experts pulling you in different directions.
  • You've likely never seen this modelled — a faith-led woman earning online without compromising her values.
  • You're doing something new, and that requires faith, not formulas.

So if you're feeling unsure, it's not because you're doing it wrong. It's because you're doing something holy — and holy things require heavenly wisdom.

Let Me Share Something Personal

For a while, I was deep in the world of affiliate marketing — running ads, testing funnels, learning everything I could about conversions and digital products. I was doing what I thought was the smart thing: building a system that could generate income.

And honestly? It worked — to an extent. I learned a lot, I did the hard yards but over time, something shifted.

The deeper I got into that path, the more my spirit felt… off.

Disconnected.

Like I was slowly building a business that looked good on the outside but didn't feel right on the inside.

That's when I started to notice it — a quiet restlessness. A whisper that would come when the house was quiet or when I sat in church. It wasn't loud or pushy, but it kept returning.

"There's more than this."

"What if the women you're meant to help… are women just like you?"

"You don't need to chase success — you need to serve with purpose."

I began praying — not just for clarity, but for courage because letting go of something you've worked hard to build is not easy. But as I surrendered, God began to reveal a new assignment:

To create a space where Christian women could learn how to earn online with integrity, strategy, and Spirit-led confidence.

To blend funnels with faith.

Business with calling.

Simplicity with soul.

The blog you're reading now is part of that. But the mission is bigger:

To walk alongside women as they build what they're truly called to create — without selling their soul, silencing their faith, or sacrificing their peace.

So yes, I was called. But I was also confused. And if you're standing in that same place right now — I get it.

But trust me: you don't need to have all the answers. You just need to trust the One who does.

The Middle Is Where Trust Grows

Everyone loves a testimony that ends in a breakthrough. But few people talk about the middle — the messy, mundane, doubt-filled middle — where trust is tested and deepened.

It's in that space between "I think I'm called" and "Wow, God really used me" that our faith is forged.

So what does trusting God in your business journey actually look like?

1. Pray Before You Plan

It sounds simple, but this step makes all the difference.

Before you brainstorm your offers, before you outline your funnel, before you pick your platform — pray.

Ask:

  • Lord, is this idea from You or from fear?
  • Who are You calling me to serve?
  • How can I reflect Your heart in this message?

When prayer comes before planning, peace follows purpose.

2. Act on the Light You Have

You don't need the whole roadmap. God often only gives enough light for the next step.

If you feel led to write a blog post — write it.

If you're nudged to start an email list — start it.

If someone asks you to help with something you know how to do — say yes.

The next step becomes clear after you take the current one.

Obedience creates momentum. It also creates clarity.

3. Let Go of Needing to "Get It Right" the First Time

God isn't asking for perfection. He's asking for participation.

You don't need a flawless launch. You don't need a 6-figure course. You don't need a viral Instagram strategy.

You need a willing heart and faithful hands.

Allow yourself to experiment, learn, and grow. Remember: God can't steer a parked car. Start moving, and trust that He'll redirect if needed.

4. Discern the Difference Between Fear and a "Check in Your Spirit"

Not every hesitation is spiritual, sometimes it's just fear.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I hesitating because I feel convicted… or because I'm afraid?
  • Do I have peace in my spirit, even if I feel nervous in my body?

Confusion that comes from the enemy brings anxiety and paralysis.

Conviction from God brings clarity and peace — even when it stretches you.

Learn to recognize His voice in the noise.

5. Trust That God Is As Invested in Your Business as You Are

This is the part we forget: God cares about your work.

He isn't indifferent to your dreams. He doesn't roll His eyes at your Canva graphics or your sales page copy.

He's in it with you.

God is both CEO and Shepherd — wise enough to lead, gentle enough to stay close.

You're not building alone.

Your Calling Is Not a Straight Line — And That's Okay

You might take detours. You might rebrand. You might start over.

None of that disqualifies you.

If you stay anchored to God's presence, He will guide you to His purpose.

It's not about building fast. It's about building faithfully.

A Final Word of Encouragement

You don't have to have all the answers to move forward. You don't have to be fearless. You don't even need a perfect 5-year plan.

You simply need to say:

"Here I am, Lord. I don't see the full picture. But I trust You to lead me."

And friend… that's more than enough.

Stay Blessed,

Deborah 💛

Devotional: "Peace in the Unseen"

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Reflection:

It's easy to trust when the path is clear. But God asks us to trust when it isn't — when things are foggy, slow, or uncertain. That's where our faith grows. That's where we become women who walk not by sight, but by trust.

God doesn't need you to understand everything to bless your steps. He simply wants you to walk with Him, one obedient moment at a time.

Prayer:

Lord, I give You my questions, my fears, and my business ideas. Help me trust You even when the way forward feels unclear. Teach me to pause, pray, and proceed in faith. Make my path straight, even when I can't yet see the road.

In Jesus' Mighty name, Amen.
