Can You Build a Business with God and Still Make a Profit?
If you're a Christian woman trying to build a business online, you've probably wrestled with this question:
Can I really do this with God… and still make money?
You're not alone. I've reflected on this a lot throughout my life, especially now that my online business is growing.
For many of us, at some point in our lives, we adopted an unspoken belief that money and ministry should never be mentioned in the same sentence. We often think that making a profit means compromising our values, and that if we truly have faith, we should serve without expecting anything in return.
But I'ld like to address that issue.
What If Profit Isn't the Problem?
Making money isn't the issue — misalignment is.
When we chase profit at the cost of our peace, our purpose, or our integrity… that's when things get off track.
But when we build with God, stay rooted in our calling, and show up to serve with excellence and intention?
Profit becomes a byproduct of stewardship.
It's not greed. It's growth.
It's not ego. It's obedience.
It's not selling out. It's showing up — with something of value to offer.
Business Isn't Less Holy Than Ministry
There's no divide between "spiritual" and "strategic" when you're walking in your assignment.
You can:
- Run a business and still serve people deeply.
- Sell a product and still point to Christ.
- Earn income and still honour God with every decision.
In fact — I'd argue that we need more women doing exactly that.
Because the world doesn't need more noise. It needs more truth-tellers with structure.
More women who build with integrity and intention.
More women who believe that profit and purpose can walk together — when God leads the way.
So... Can You Build with God and Still Make a Profit?
Yes. But here’s the key: You have to do it differently.
You won’t be shouting to be seen.
You won’t be manipulating to convert.
You won’t be striving in your own strength.
Instead, you’ll be:
- Creating from overflow, not obligation
- Serving with clarity, not confusion
- Trusting the long game — not the next viral post
And here’s what I’ve learned along the way:
When you build a business with your faith front and centre, you're not just growing an income — you’re growing in faith too.
Every launch becomes an act of trust.
Every post becomes a seed of obedience.
Every setback becomes an invitation to pray, pivot, and keep going.
You’re not just building something for profit.
You’re becoming someone through the process — and that is the real success.
It might look slower. It might feel quieter. But it will be stronger. And it will last.
What Does the Bible Say About Profit and Faith?
Are you still wondering if it's okay to earn income online while following Jesus?
Like all Christians, I've found the Bible to be the best place to turn when navigating the space between business and belief. The Scriptures do not condemn wealth or profit; instead, they call us to manage it wisely and with purpose. Over and over, we see successful and faithful believers using their resources to glorify God, serve others, and build His Kingdom.
Let's examine two powerful examples:
💰 Barnabas: The Generous Investor in the Early Church
In Acts 4:36–37, we meet Barnabas — a Levite from Cyprus who owned property. Scripture tells us he “sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.”
Barnabas wasn’t rebuked for being wealthy. In fact, his financial resources became a key part of how the early church was supported and strengthened. Without that property, he wouldn’t have had the means to contribute in such a significant way.
Barnabas shows us that wealth in the hands of a willing heart becomes a tool for transformation — not something to fear or feel guilty about.
🧵 Lydia: A Successful Woman in Business Who Made Room for the Gospel
In Acts 16:14–15, we meet Lydia — “a dealer in purple cloth,” which was the fabric of royalty. She was clearly affluent, respected, and successful. But she was also described as “a worshiper of God.”
After her conversion, Lydia opened her home to Paul and other believers. Her home likely became one of the first house churches in Philippi — a place of hospitality, encouragement, and mission.
Lydia’s story reminds us:
You can be successful in business, faithful in spirit, and impactful in God’s Kingdom — all at the same time.
It’s Not About the Money — It’s About the Heart
The Bible never says that having money is wrong. What it cautions against is loving money more than God (1 Timothy 6:10).
When profit becomes your idol, it leads to striving.
But when profit becomes your provision to serve, it becomes part of your purpose.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” – Proverbs 3:9–10
Profit, used wisely and generously, can build the Kingdom.
It can support missions, provide for your family, relieve financial pressure, and create freedom for you to serve more deeply.
You don’t have to choose between business and faith.
With the right heart, you can build both — and bless others along the way.
What This Looks Like for Me
I’ve tried a lot of things in the "making money online" space — affiliate marketing, freelancing, coaching, content creation… and I’ve learned that every offer, every product, every blog post should start with this question:
“Does this honour both my faith and the woman I’m called to serve?”
If the answer is yes, I move forward.
If the answer is no, I pause.
That’s the filter. That’s the framework. And that’s how I’ve begun to build a business that actually feels good to run.
Final Thought
Don’t let the world tell you that success has to come at the cost of your soul.
And don’t let fear tell you that profit has no place in your purpose.
You can build a business.
You can honour your faith.
And yes — you can make money doing it.
It won’t always be easy. But it will be worth it.
Stay faithful. Stay focused. Stay building.
Stay Blessed,
Deborah 💛

🌿 Reflection
Profit isn’t the problem. The posture of our hearts is. When we honour God with what we earn — when we give, serve, and build with intention — profit becomes a tool for purpose.
It’s not selfish to want financial freedom. It’s faithful to want to use what’s in your hands to bless your family, your community, and the work of the Kingdom.
So don’t shrink back from growth. Don’t apologize for wanting success — just define it through God’s eyes, not the world’s.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, Thank You for reminding me that building a business with You is not only possible — it’s powerful. Help me to pursue profit with a pure heart and to honour You in every decision I make. Keep me rooted in purpose, consistent in action, and generous with everything You place in my hands. Let my success reflect Your goodness. Let my work be worship.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
