How to Hear God's Voice When Making Business Decisions
We don't talk about it often, but let's be honest—making decisions in business can feel spiritually paralyzing.
There's pressure to be wise.
To be brave.
To get it right.
You can Google strategies, follow influencers, ask for advice—but at the end of the day, if you're building your business with God, the question that really matters is:
"Lord… what are You saying?"
I remember sitting at my desk one night, staring at a decision that felt impossibly big. I had just started this new business journey, and while my heart was full of purpose, I didn't feel qualified. I wasn't sure if I was hearing God—or just hearing my own fear. That's when I knew I needed to learn what it meant to actually listen for His voice in the middle of the mess.
But what happens when the heavens feel quiet? Or worse—when you take a step forward and feel the sting of criticism, confusion, or fear?
A few weeks ago, I boosted a simple post—something honest, faith-filled, and encouraging. I thought maybe a few women might see it and feel less alone.
Instead, I was met with a flood of comments so cruel and full of hatred that I sat in tears, wondering if I'd made a terrible mistake. Fifty hateful messages. Strangers calling me names I won't repeat. And for a moment, I honestly questioned if I had misheard God.
Why would He allow something like this if I was doing what He asked?
I found myself sitting in front of my computer, shaken to the core, whispering: "Did I get this wrong, God? Was that really Your voice?"
But even in the noise, something deeper stirred.
Not a booming shout.
But a quiet knowing in my spirit during prayer.
A steady, sacred sense of peace.
And in it, a clear reminder:
"Yes. Keep building."
Hearing God's voice in your business isn't about being a prophet or perfect.
It's about being present.
It's about listening with your whole heart, and learning to trust His way of leading—even when it's not loud or immediate.
Here's how to begin.
1. Prayer with Specificity and Surrender
Sometimes we pray vague prayers, we ask "God, show me what to do."
But what if we dared to ask more specifically?
"God, should I launch this product?"
"Should I speak up about this topic?"
"Do You want me to rest or press on?"
And then—this is the key—surrender your desired outcome.
Ask, and then let go.
Trust that He will lead you, even if it's not in the way or timing you expect.
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
—Jeremiah 29:13
2. Peace Over Pressure
God's voice isn't frantic.
It doesn't manipulate or panic you into making a move.
It leads with peace—even when it's prompting you to do something bold.
If a decision fills you with fear, anxiety, or a feeling of being "pushed," pause. That's not how your Father operates. His way is firm but kind.
"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…"
—Colossians 3:15
3. Scripture That Speaks to Your Situation
God's voice will never contradict His Word.
If you're unsure what to do, open your Bible—not just for instruction, but also for guidance and alignment.
A verse may stand out.
A story might suddenly feel personal, these moments are how the Holy Spirit whispers truth into your decisions.
When I was recently overwhelmed by the backlash to my post, Isaiah 41:10 anchored me:
"Do not fear, for I am with you... I will strengthen you and help you."
It didn't solve everything instantly.
But it reminded me I wasn't alone.
In that moment, God didn't give me a strategy. He gave me presence. And that was enough to keep going.
4. Wise Counsel That Aligns With Your Values
Not all advice is created equal.
Seek input from those who know your heart and your God.
That might mean turning down loud opinions from successful people who don't share your faith—and instead leaning into a small circle of spiritually grounded mentors or friends.
"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed."
—Proverbs 15:22
5. Promptings You Can't Shake
You know that quiet nudge? The one that whispers to you late at night or keeps returning in prayer, in dreams, in little signs that seem too specific to be coincidence?
Pay attention.
God's voice often starts as a whisper, not a shout.
He is kind enough to repeat Himself—if we're willing to listen.
And even if it's a step that doesn't make perfect sense to the world… obedience brings clarity on the other side.
When God is Silent: Trusting the Delay
Sometimes, even after praying and listening… you hear nothing.
That doesn't mean God is absent.
It might mean He's inviting you to trust what He's already told you.
It might mean He's protecting you from a premature "yes."
Or preparing you for a better door to open.
Don't panic in the pause.
Obedience is still obedience, even in the waiting.
He's More Invested Than You Think
You're not just running a business.
You're stewarding a calling.
And God cares more about the who you're becoming through it than the results you're chasing.
You're not bothering Him with your questions.
You're inviting Him in.
If I've learned anything through this journey—through the grief of loss, the rebuilding of life, and now the building of a business—it's this: God has never been absent. Even in the most confusing decisions, even when I was shaking after reading cruel words online, He kept whispering the same phrase: "Keep building."
And so I am.
One post, one blog, one brave yes at a time.
And when the noise comes, or the trolls attack, or your confidence wavers…
You can rest in knowing: His voice is still steady. His love is still sure.
And if you're listening for Him, you're not lost. You're already on the right path.
Stay Blessed

Mini Devotional
📖 Verse:
"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'"
—Isaiah 30:21
🕊 Reflection:
God's voice isn't always loud, but it is always faithful.
When the world offers pressure, He provides peace.
When the options feel overwhelming, He brings wisdom.
And when you're scared, unsure, or weary—He walks beside you.
You don't have to know everything.
You just need to stay close enough to hear Him whisper: "This is the way."
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, I don't want to build anything without You.
Teach me to hear Your voice—not just in big moments, but in the small, daily decisions that shape my life and my business journey.
When I'm unsure, give me peace.
When I'm pressured, please remind me to pause.
When I'm afraid, draw near.
Help me to trust that You're leading—even when I don't yet see the path.
Amen.
