How to Start Your Online Business with Faith and Simplicity

How to Start Your Online Business with Faith and Simplicity

Aug 06, 2025

You don't need to hustle harder. You just need to start with God—and keep it simple.

Starting an online business can feel like stepping into a maze of tech jargon, endless platforms, and pressure to "do it all" before you've even figured out what you're called to build.

I know, because I've been there.

I've signed up for the courses, followed the gurus, built the landing pages, and yes… I've overcomplicated everything for years.

But what if I told you that starting your online business doesn't have to be complicated, overwhelming, or expensive?

What if it could begin with faith, be built with simplicity, and grow steadily—without you burning out or selling your soul?

If you're a Christian woman with a message, a gift, or just a stirring in your heart that says, "There has to be more than this," then you're in the right place.

Let's talk about how to launch your online business with faith and simplicity—and the 3 steps I wish I had known when I first started.

The Truth About My First Few Years Online (Spoiler: It Was Complicated)

Let me be honest with you.

When I first started earning money online, it was anything but simple.

I tried affiliate marketing, digital products, coaching, you name it. I bought courses I never finished. I tested more programs than I could count. I even spent thousands running Google Ads—writing endless variations of scripts, tweaking headlines and thumbnails, building split test after split test.

I wasn't building a business—I was building burnout.

My inbox was full of login details.

My desktop? Chaos.

My soul? Weary.

And while I did make money (some months, even good money), it didn't feel aligned with what I was truly called to do.

It was messy. Fragmented. Complicated.

Eventually, I had to stop and ask myself the question I'd been avoiding:

"Is this really how I want to serve? And is this really what God is asking of me?"

That question changed everything.

What I Learned (and What I Want You to Know)

I learned that more tech doesn't mean more impact.

That more programs don't mean more purpose.

And that hustle might build a business—but it rarely builds a calling.

You don't need ten funnels, twelve income streams, or a TikTok strategy to start.

You need clarity.

You need faith.

And you need a simple path.

Which brings me to what I wish someone had told me:

Start With Simplicity: The 3-Step Faithful Business Start Plan

Let's break it down. If you're starting from scratch (or feeling like you need a reset), here's how to begin with faith and simplicity.

Step 1: Choose One Calling, One Audience, One Offer

Let me guess—you have so many ideas. You want to encourage women. Share Scripture. Maybe coach, create devotionals, or sell digital products. And every voice online seems to be yelling, "Niche down!" or "Choose a business model!"

But here's my gentle guidance:

Don't start with a strategy.

Start with God.

What is He calling you to do in this season?

Who do you feel most drawn to serve?

What do you already have in your hand?

Pray. Journal.

Ask Him to show you the one person you're meant to help—and one person you can help.

Here are a few examples to make it real:

1: Faith + Journaling Niche

Calling: To help overwhelmed Christian women find peace and clarity through writing

Audience: Christian women juggling family, faith, and fatigue

Offer: A $7 printable prayer journal that guides her to reset her day in 10 minutes

2: Faith + Wellness Encourager

Calling: To help women care for their bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit

Audience: Christian women over 40 struggling with energy, mindset, and motivation

Offer: A 14-day "Faith + Fitness Reset" with daily Scripture-based motivation and simple movement routines (delivered as a digital PDF or email series)

3: Faith-Based Encouragement for Single Mothers

Calling: To support single Christian mums navigating faith, motherhood, and financial pressure

Audience: Christian single mums feeling overwhelmed and spiritually exhausted

Offer: A free "5-Minute Peace for Your Day" devotional + journaling pages — followed by an affordable mini-course or eBook titled "Grace Over Guilt: Faithful Motherhood in Hard Seasons"

Start there. One audience. One offer. One calling.

It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be faithful. And you just need to start.

Step 2: Create a Simple Path to Connect (aka Your Funnel)

Now that you know who you serve and what you're offering, let's build a simple way for people to connect with you.

Think of this like an open door—a way to say, "Welcome in, I have something for you."

Here's a simple path:

  • Freebie (Lead Magnet) — Give something valuable away (like a checklist, devotional, or guide).
  • Email List — Collect emails so you can nurture your audience.
  • Tiny Offer or Encouragement Email Series — Send either a small product, or simply encouragement that builds trust.

You can build all of this with free tools if you need to.

I personally use Canva to create my lead magnets and Groovepages to build my funnels — and I love how simple and beginner-friendly Groove is. It doesn’t overwhelm you with tech, which is why it’s my go-to recommendation for faith-led women starting out.

If you want to check Groove out for yourself, they offer a 30-day free trial — no pressure, just a great way to explore if it’s right for you.

Don't overcomplicate it—one page, one email opt-in, and one simple product or purpose.

You don't need a 12-part sales sequence. You need a real connection.

Step 3: Show Up Consistently (Even If It's Quietly)

You don't need to post every day, or dance on Instagram reels (unless you want to!).

Just commit to showing up in a way that feels faithful to your calling.

  • Write one blog post a week.
  • Send one email of encouragement every Tuesday.
  • Post one Scripture on your Instagram.

That's it. Simple. Sustainable. Sacred.

Let your audience know you're here. You're consistent. You're real.

So… Where Do You Begin Today?

You begin by letting go of hustle.

You begin by inviting God into your plans.

You begin by choosing simple over scattered.

Because sweet friend, your heart is already aligned with purpose.

You're not here to build a brand for applause.

You're here to build a successful business with eternal impact.

And I want you to know: it's possible.

With faith. With focus. With simplicity.

You can begin today—with what you have, right where you are.

I'm cheering you on the whole way.

Stay Blessed,

Deborah 💛

Mini Devotional: "Simple Obedience, Big Impact"

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." — Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

🌿 Devotional:

It's easy to believe we need to do more to see results.

But God's Kingdom doesn't work like the world. It's not hustle that establishes your business—it's His hand.

When you commit your calling to Him, He aligns your steps—even when they feel small or slow.

Simple obedience—like sending that email, finishing that blog, or showing up with encouragement—is never wasted in the Kingdom.

You don't need to strive to be successful.

You just need to be faithful to start.

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, thank You for calling me into something greater than myself.

Help me to start with simplicity, grounded in Your truth.

Please give me courage to take small steps, clarity in the noise, and faith to follow even when the path feels quiet.

I commit my business to You—every plan, every post, every product.

Establish it, Lord—not for my glory, but Yours.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
