Your 3 Steps to Build an Online Christian Business That Honors God
Every Big Dream Starts Small
Let’s be honest — starting an online business can feel like standing at the base of a mountain with a backpack full of good intentions and absolutely no map.
You’ve prayed about this dream.
You’ve watched the tutorials, downloaded the freebies, and maybe even bought a course or two. But somehow, you still feel stuck — unsure what to do first, what actually matters, and what’s just noise.
You want to make progress, but every time you scroll through social media, you’re hit with a flood of “shoulds.”
You should be posting more. You should have a funnel. You should be going viral by now.
It’s exhausting — and deep down, you’re wondering if maybe you’re just not cut out for this.
Believe me, I’ve been there.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You don’t need a marketing degree, or fancy tech skills, or a huge following. You just need the willingness to start, the faith to keep going, and a guide who’s been where you are.
I’m here — to show you how to build your business with simplicity, strategy, and faith.
And if I can do this - — a middle-aged woman with absolutely no prior online business experience — then so can you.
Because when you strip away all the noise, building an online business really comes down to a few simple, faithful steps.
And here’s the best part — you’re not building this alone. God’s right beside you in every uncertain step, every small start, every “Lord, help me figure this tech thing out” prayer.
“Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10
Take a deep breath and remember — this isn’t just about creating a business. It’s about learning to walk with God as you build.
I still remember the early days of starting my online business — staring at the computer screen with about twenty tabs open, wondering where on earth to begin. Everyone seemed to have a different formula for success. “Post every day.” “Start a podcast.” “Build a course.”
It was overwhelming.
Maybe you’ve been there too. You feel called to build something meaningful, but instead of clarity, you’re drowning in information. And somewhere deep down, you’re wondering if you’re even qualified.
Let me tell you something I wish someone had told me:
You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need to start with what’s in your hand.
God isn’t asking you to do everything — He’s simply asking you to take the next faithful step.
So, if you’re in those tender beginnings of your online business journey, here are three things to focus on first.
They’re simple, practical, and deeply grounded in faith — because the goal isn’t just to build a business. It’s to build a foundation that lasts.

1. Build Your Audience — Serve Before You Sell
Before you worry about sales, logos, or funnels, focus on connection.
Your audience is the heartbeat of your business — not just numbers or followers, but real people who need what God’s placed inside of you. When you start from that place, your content shifts from promotion to purpose.
👉 Begin by sharing encouragement, wisdom, and behind-the-scenes moments that show your heart.
People don’t connect to perfection — they connect to authenticity.
I remember one of my very first posts. I’d spent hours writing this “perfect” caption with a perfectly filtered photo and a list of hashtags longer than the book of Psalms. It flopped.
Not a single comment.
A week later, I posted a quick story about accidentally spilling coffee on my keyboard while praying over my business — and that’s the one people loved! Turns out, they didn’t need another “business tip.” They needed to see a real person trusting God through the mess.
That’s when I learned: engagement doesn’t come from impressing people; it comes from relating to them.
If you feel like no one’s listening yet, that’s okay.
Think of it like sowing seeds.
The first ones go deep into the soil where no one sees, but with time and consistency, the roots grow strong — and then one day, a tiny bud breaks through the fertilised ground. Keep tending it, keep watering it with faith, and before you know it, that small beginning becomes a flourishing oak tree — strong, steady, and unmistakably alive.

2. Create Your Foundation — Keep It Simple and Steady
The biggest mistake I see beginners make is trying to build everything at once. A blog, podcast, YouTube channel, three social platforms, a course, a membership... and within weeks, they’re exhausted.
Remember, simplicity is your superpower.
Focus on three foundational steps:
- Choose your niche. Who are you called to serve, and what problem do you help solve?
- Choose your platform. Pick one main home — maybe Instagram, YouTube, or your blog.
- Create one freebie. Something small but meaningful that serves your audience and builds your email list.
When you’re ready to offer something of value, start small.
It could be a short checklist, a simple worksheet, or a prayer guide — something that truly helps your audience take one small, meaningful step forward.
And if you’re not sure where to start or what kind of resource to create, I’ve got you covered.

Once you have these three in place, you have the beginnings of a faithful funnel.
Then, set up a simple system — an email list, a landing page, and a thank-you page.
Don’t worry about fancy tech. It doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to work.
When I first attempted to set up my own funnel, I had no idea what I was doing. I watched a dozen tutorials, broke my opt-in form twice, and somehow sent myself 42 welcome emails in one night. I laughed, cried, and maybe threatened to move to a cabin with no Wi-Fi.
But you know what? The next morning, I figured it out — and the relief was glorious.
That’s when I learned that progress isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth it.
Clarity doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from doing less — with intention.

3. Launch & Learn — Start Imperfectly, Grow Faithfully
This step is where many people freeze.
They think, “I’ll launch when it’s perfect.”
But perfection is just procrastination dressed in a prettier outfit.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin.
Every successful entrepreneur started unsure. Every first product, video, or post began with trembling hands and a hopeful heart.
When you take that first imperfect step, something powerful happens — momentum begins to build.
Post your offer. Send the email. Publish the video. Tell people about your freebie. And when it feels awkward (because it will), remind yourself: obedience is better than polish.
When I hit “publish” on my very first blog post, I was so nervous I shut my laptop and went for a walk with the dog. I half expected the internet to explode or at least send me a polite email saying, “Nice try, Deborah.”
Instead, I came home to find… three whole readers! One of them was my mum. But hey, that’s how every journey starts.
Each step teaches you something valuable — about your audience, your systems, and yourself.
God doesn’t bless perfection — He blesses movement.
God is the Encouragement for the Journey
If your beginning feels small, take heart — God delights in small starts, because that’s where our faith grows strongest.
Every oak tree starts as an unseen seed. Every miracle begins with a single “yes.”
This isn’t just about business — it’s about becoming the person God designed you to be in the process.
You’re not behind. You’re being prepared.
Stay consistent.
Stay surrendered.
And remember: your faithfulness in this season is building the foundation for everything that comes next.
Mini Devotional — Faith in the Foundations
📜 Scripture:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
🕊 Reflection:
When you’re building something new, it’s easy to believe success depends on your effort. But true success — lasting success — begins with surrender.
When you invite God into the blueprint, He doesn’t just help you build faster. He helps you build stronger.
So take a deep breath today. You’re not doing this alone.
Your job is obedience.
God’s job is outcome.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the dream You’ve placed in my heart.
Help me to take each step with faith, not fear.
Teach me to build with Your wisdom, not the world’s rush.
When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that I’m not behind — I’m becoming.
Bless the work of my hands, and let this business bring You glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Stay Blessed,
Deborah 💛
