Step Into the Light: Bringing Jesus Into Your Business
On the way home from school, my daughter and I were singing “Step Into the Light” by Passion. It’s something we often do — sing together in the car, and then talk about what the words mean.
The lyrics stayed with me as we drove:
Step into the light
Step into the light
The darkness can’t survive
The fire in His eyes
So step into the light
You were never meant to hide
You were made to be alive
Step into the light.
It reminded me of the theme of our church this month: Stepping Into the Light, which revolves around John 1:1–11:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
As I was listening, reflecting, and driving (multi-tasking mum life at its best), it struck me deeply: Jesus is the true Light. And where His light shines, darkness cannot win.
Think about it for a moment. You can’t walk into a bright room and “switch on” the darkness. Darkness has no power of its own. It only exists where light has been removed.
If you are in a dark place, it doesn’t mean the darkness is stronger — it means the light has left.
The only way to overcome darkness is to step into the Light.
Who the Light Really Is (and Why It Matters for Your Business)
The Light is Jesus.
And how do we step into that Light?
- By reading the Word.
- By being in God’s presence.
- By surrounding ourselves with His people.
It sounds simple, but how easy is it for us to slip into the shadows?
It’s easy to hide. Easy to stay quiet about our faith. Easy to play small.
And for many of us building businesses, it’s easy to treat faith as a side note — something personal and private — while keeping our work “safe” in the shadows.
But we aren’t called to live in shadows.
We are called to step into the Light.
Why Hiding Your Faith Holds Your Business Back
Let’s be honest: living in the shadows feels safer.
- You don’t risk offending anyone.
- You don’t risk standing out.
- You don’t risk rejection.
But here’s the cost: a business in the shadows cannot thrive.
When we hide our faith, when we water down our message to blend in, when we ignore God’s presence in our work — we are essentially trying to grow something without light.
And we all know what happens when plants are kept in the dark. They wither. They die.
On the other hand, when we step into the Light of Christ and invite Him to fuel our work, our businesses can grow strong and thrive.
That doesn’t mean it’s always convenient. Obedience rarely is. But it’s where the real growth happens.
3 Simple Ways to Shine Jesus Through Your Business Daily
Light isn’t just a one-time decision. It’s a daily practice.
We have to choose to step into the Light, again and again.
Here are three ways you can practice living — and building — in the Light:
1. Make Kindness a KPI
In business, we talk about KPIs — Key Performance Indicators. Numbers that show progress.
But what if one of your KPIs wasn’t just sales or followers, but kindness?
Every day, in every interaction, you have the opportunity to shine the Light of Jesus through kindness.
- Answer the email with patience.
- Encourage a struggling client.
- Go the extra mile when no one expects it.
These are not manipulations or marketing tactics. They’re discipleship. They’re what it means to reflect Christ in your business.
And people will remember. Not just what you taught them, but how you treated them.
2. Step Out of the Shadows Online
It’s tempting to keep your faith hidden online. To share business tips, strategies, and content — but never the deeper “why.”
But Jesus didn’t call us to half-light.
Let your faith weave naturally into your business. Quote Scripture when it fits. Share how God guides your decisions. Pray for your clients.
It doesn’t mean forcing your beliefs on anyone. It means being true to yourself and the Word of God in all you do.
3. Practice Light Daily
Just like any discipline, living in the Light takes practice.
- Spend time in prayer before you open your laptop.
- Ask God to guide your words before you write a post.
- End your workday with gratitude.
These simple rhythms keep you rooted in the Source of Light, so you can shine consistently in the world.
One of the simplest ways to practice the Light daily is to ground yourself in Scripture. If you’re looking for verses to keep close in your business, I’ve gathered my favourites here: 10 Bible Verses Every Christian Entrepreneur Needs in Her Toolkit

What Happens When You Build in the Light of Christ
When you choose Light over shadows, something shifts:
- Your business feels different — fueled by peace instead of pressure.
- Your clients feel seen and encouraged, not just “served.”
- Your community grows in depth, not just in numbers.
Most importantly, the Light of Jesus shines through your work into places it might never have reached otherwise.
And isn’t that the ultimate KPI?
Closing Thoughts
You can’t turn on the darkness in a light-filled room. The only way for darkness to exist is for light to be absent.
So if you feel your business is stuck in shadows — step into the Light.
Not just for your own growth. Not just for your family’s provision but for the glory of God, who has called you to build something bigger than yourself.
Step into the Light. Practice kindness. Be brave. Shine Christ through your business.
That is how we thrive.
Stay Blessed,

📜 Verse:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
🕊 Reflection:
Remember when you live with Christ the darkness has no power over light. In your business, you don’t need to fear shadows — you only need to practice stepping into the Light of Jesus every day. Through kindness, truth, and faith, you become a living testimony of His presence in the world.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, God, thank You for being the true Light, the one that no darkness can overcome. I pray for Your help and strength to step out of the shadows and live fully in Your presence. Teach me to make kindness a daily practice, not just in my personal life but in my business, my community, and my world. May everything I build reflect Your glory, and may others be drawn to Your Light through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
